Honestly, the year argument I made is bullshit. Even during slavery there were white abolitionists who thought that slavery was morally wrong because they thought that black people were humans. Even in the 1800s, white people were perfectly smart enough to know that they were doing something bad. There’s not really any valid excuse for that.

While Jesus was alive Israel was occupied by the Romans and slavery in Ancient Rome both wasn’t hereditary and wasn’t race-based. Slaves were usually prisoners of war and could earn their citizenship after being slaves for a certain number of years and some of them eventually came to own slaves themselves. The concept of race didn’t exist back then. It’s still bad but it’s not remotely the same thing.
