Topic: Old vs New Catholicism

Anonymous A started this discussion 1 month ago #132,897

Old Catholicism

- the pope is infallible and when he says that all who die along the way by sea or by air on a mad suicidal quest to conquer the holy land will receive immediate remission of their sins and skip purgatory for the 8th or 9th time in a row depending on who you ask everybody’s gonna get up and actually do it

- the pope gets to decide whether or not European monarchs can declare war

- the pope gets to decide whether European monarchs can get their marriages annulled

- the church gets to crown monarchs and emperors

- heretics are burned alive at the stake in public as examples of what happens if you question the authority of the church

- if you have doubts about god you will be taken in for questioning and tortured

- suicide is unforgivable and if you kill yourself you will be buried in a Jewish cemetery instead of a Catholic cemetery unless you died as a martyr of the faith

New Catholicism:

- war is bad

- migrants and the poor should be treated with dignity

- capital punishment is bad

- democracy is good

- suicide is sorta forgivable

Sorta forgivable as in, you won’t go to hell, but you should suffer instead of taking the easy way out.

They've been semi-cool with science so that's a start, but the entire organization is huffing their own farts with the robes and confessional booth and theater.

Make fun of confession all you want, but don’t disrespect the drip.

Whta's the lesson here?

The more they veer from the original Church founded by Jesus, the better they get?

Early Christians who lived in the Roman Empire when Christianity was still illegal were actually pacifists.

During the Middle Ages the Catholic Church was more powerful than governments and all of those governments were autocratic absolute monarchies, which is why all that stuff happened. Absolute power corrupts absolutely.

So HIS kingdom was just copying the fallen world for the most part?

The kingdom of God is heaven, the church is of this world and this world is fallen.

Well if you’re unhappy with that, then you’re unhappy with everybody equally.
