Debate and discuss.

No because it’s not even at the actual inflation rate. When inflation is 7% it still usually trends 2.5%.

I said 'thank you' and took it, I wasn't going to argue with the boss on why it should be more. I've got a few more years of work and can pitch for a real pay raise after a successful project or something.

No, at best it's a pay same. I've got a 4% guaranteed pay rise this year but they've struck me with an extra 4 office days a month meaning a big chunk of that 4% is going to travel companies.

I worked at a place that cut everyone’s pay in 2008 by 15%-20%. Your annual raise then dropped to 2.5%.

That meant you were whole again in 7 years. Only, matching your prior salary in name only with largely deflated money.

I left. Many of my coworkers stayed and are still there. They didn’t readjust when times were good again for company earnings in 2012 and executives earned bonuses throughout, including for “staunched losses.” As in, “arrested adjusted EBITDA losses” to, say, -6% vs. -9%. Talk about rewards for a participation trophy.

No, and when you consider tax brackets, you're actually getting less if your pay raise is the same as inflation.

This happened to me! A moderate raise put my household in AMT and I made less after-tax money than in the prior year.
