I want to merge D:\ and C:\ to form one drive (C:\)

Is this possible?

Take the stuff on D: you want and put it onto C:. Delete D:, expand C:, restart

Basically. This also has the lowest chance of fucking anything up.

You could also use a tool such as Partition Magic or Partition Manager to combine them. If the two partitions are on different physical drives, you can also just slap them together with JBOD.

Pretty sure you can do it right there. Right-click D:, delete volume.
Right-click C:, extend volume.

I would highly recommend TeraCopy: http://www.codesector.com/teracopy

If you want the entire drive copied over, all you have to do is right click on D:\, hit TeraCopy, click on "Copy" to switch it to "Move," and tell it that you want everything merged with C:\, as such:

Trust me, there's no possible way to screw this up.

Edit: I recommend TeraCopy over the built-in way of doing it with your OS because it'll be significantly quicker if you have a lot of files on D:\, which I assume you do.

If it's empty... why not just remove the partition and expand the first one? That takes no time at all and it'd be significantly easier.

It's probably because there's a page file on it. That would explain the greyed out delete and the three gigs missing.

Yep, that's what it is.
It's real simple to get rid of though.
Control Panel > System > Advanced system settings (on the left) > (Advanced tab) Performance - Settings > (Advanced tab) Virtual Memory - Change
