I’ve never really been super interested in Japan, really. This is kind of dumb, but one time I liked some Japanese song on YouTube, and then the algorithm is stupid, so the algorithm started recommending me Japanese language videos. The YouTube app has automatic subtitle translation and it also has comment translation. I’ve heard the opinion a lot on the internet that Asians are more racist against black people than white people are. But I’ve watched videos about Africa that were made by Japanese people, and I’ve read the comments. I just find it kind of crazy how when I look through the comment sections on English langue videos, if Africa is ever mentioned the comments are horribly racist and dehumanizing complaining about Africa and about Africans blaming them for being poor or saying that we should stop giving them money or that they’re all stupid and have low IQs. But when I look at Japanese language comment sections, it’s always been surprising how difficult it is to find racist comments.
I feel like I’m not really sure what to believe about this. Supposedly they’re a very polite culture. But people say they’re more racist against black people than whites are. Except Japanese people aren’t known for being violent, but white people are well known for being extremely violent especially towards black people. So I guess maybe the explanation could be the Japanese are more racist, but they’re less violent, but they’re polite so they don’t say anything. So are they more racist? I don’t want to have the stupid opinion on this, but I’m legitimately kind of confused.

Every time I see a video with black people mentioned in English, I cringe knowing the comments are going to be a bunch of racist shit, I look at the comments and it is. Whenever it’s in Japanese I cringe thinking the comments are going to be racist, then I translate a bunch of comments and don’t find anything. But then the English language comment sections related to Japan people will write stuff about how "we’re also tired of black people" like the white racists think the Japanese hate blacks as much as they do.
I just find this interesting. TBH idk what to think about it.

If they actually are more racist than white people but have so much cultural pressure to be polite and follow the law, ngl I wish white people would just be like that. But they don’t follow the law as much as they brag about thinking they invented it (they didn't invent law).

In real life, I have found that places can be very different to the way they’re stereotyped though. Germany for example, you’d think since they have the whole history with Nazism there could be problems, but tbh, it feels perfectly fine there.

That could be. Although I was wondering more about anti black racism than anti Chinese / anti Korean racism. Like in Germany for example, there’s this whole thing where Germans think Slavs don’t like them and Slavs think Germans don’t like them but Slavs are more racist against black people than Germans. So it’s not really clear which side is worse because, it feels more natural in Germany, but then the Germans basically committed genocide against Slavic people so it makes sense Slavic people would feel a certain type of way about Germany. But then it feels way way easier to be in Germany.

I guess I feel like I want to have an informed opinion on what Japanese people actually think of black people, but there aren’t a whole lot of Japanese Americans so I’ve mostly met a bunch of Chinese Americans and Korean Americans. So I don’t want to think they’re more racist than they are or less racist than they are. Because I’d look stupid either way. And I care a lot about not looking stupid. It’s more that the contrast between the different language comment sections makes me feel like I can’t really trust what anyone says without actually knowing first hand.
Maybe it's a complex mix, as in there's types of racists. The slavs might have more vulgar and obvious racism, while the Germans have more subtle racism

Well, the Germans killed like 20 or 30 million Slavs in World War Two. Germany did have colonies in Africa, but they were relatively small compared to France and Britain. It could also be because of historical reasons.

Their plan was literally to depopulate the Soviet Union by starving all the Slavs to death because they considered them to be an inferior race and repopulate it with Germans so that they could have "living space."

There are also a lot more black and brown people in Germany than in Eastern Europe since it’s the economic center of Europe, so since it’s more highly developed than post-Soviet countries Germans interact with people who aren’t ethnically German more often. They don’t even necessarily assume you’re foreign and don’t speak German if you’re not white. Even if they speak English they always start with German.

I have seen some video on the internet of Germans being openly racist towards a Korean streamer. But when I was there, wherever I went, nobody ever said or did anything.

Honestly it could be that the Japanese comment sections are racist but I’ve just been desensitized from the English comment sections. The amount of sadism in English comment sections on the internet is crazy.
