Thats how it works in the UK. If your home is solely on land then you down the land. If its a flat with people above and below you can't own the land, you own a lease which can be around 100 years or more. An extension is a 90 year addon which costs around 4k plus legal fees and keep the value of your property up.

I mean the UK leasehold system is abjectly retarded. It's a historical vestige of feudalism that we really ought to have abandoned long ago. No other country struggled implementing freehold (i.e. you actually own the property, even if not the land below) flats, but I don't expect the UK to reform any time soon.

In the US, there is similar. If you buy a condo or an apartment in a building, you own the "inside space" or the "airspace", but you still own it forever.

I got an additional £3k FFS. They said the company is growing and there is a lot of expenditure going out. However, they are planning on moving me to a new position by the end of the year that will significantly increase my salary
