Topic: The faint young sun paradox

BlackBodyRadiation started this discussion 3 weeks ago #132,191

The sun gets about 10% brighter every billion years. This means a billion years from now, the oceans should boil away, and 3.7 billion years ago, when life began, the Earth should have been a snowball.

What are your thoughts on this?

Apparently, photosynthesis coincidentally evolved at the same time the atmosphere needed most of the carbon dioxide to be converted into oxygen to keep the temperature of the planet stable enough to support life, and we’re just supposed to believe that we got that lucky.

Has anyone ever considered that maybe the sun doesn’t exist?

Like hypothetically, what if, we live under a giant dome, and this is a reality TV show. And I’m actually an actor.

I guess being "intelligent" you’d think we’d come up with the solution to make the Earth 10% colder over the next billion years, but I guess not, I guess we’re doing the opposite of that, that’s neat.

I'll set a calendar reminder for 999,999,999 years from now and see if I can think of something.
