Topic: deus ex human revolution list of complaints

dreamworks is the 99% !AUIkTW/L46 started this discussion 15 years ago #13,212

sometimes this game thinks it's an open world japanese rpg which it isn't and that makes for a bunch of imbalanced shit
also the bosses are shit and the end is disappointing

praxis kits are rewarded weirdly
hacking is stupid
the ai is terrible, like in any other sneaking game
with some guns you can buy upgrades and then when you fire something you get this huge explosion yet only does a bit of damage (revolver with the multiple target-damage thing, for example)

it also has stupid micro-transactions and dlc that should've been in the base game.

@OP
That's not a review, it's a list of complaints.

ive never played any of the deus ex games, but i do know they've always been first person A-RPGs, not first person shooters.
so if a shooter is what you expected, your're playing the wrong game.

fallout 3 is a first person arpg, this is a shooter with a few rpg elements (conversations, augmentations, inventory)

Meh, I thougt they were somewhat amusing. The end was so-so, but could've been a whole lot worse
> praxis kits are rewarded weirdly
I thought it was pretty fair.
> hacking is stupid
I found it amusing, but it was incredibly silly, yes.
> the ai is terrible, like in any other sneaking game
The ai is actually fairly decent, but could see some great improvements. Didn't have any issues with it, though.
> with some guns you can buy upgrades and then when you fire something you get this huge explosion yet only does a bit of damage (revolver with the multiple target-damage thing, for example)
Hm? There was a mod for the revolver that makes your bullet explodes and that one-hit-killed most enemies in my game.
> it also has stupid micro-transactions and dlc that should've been in the base game.

the bosses are incredibly overpowered, especially if you play non-lethal only, so you basically have to go back trough the level and hope there's enough xp to be rewarded to get another praxis, whilst in an open world rpg, eg, fallout, you can actually do something useful if you're too low-level for something
> > also the bosses are shit and the end is disappointing

you don't affect the end until the last 10 minutes of the game
> > praxis kits are rewarded weirdly
> I thought it was pretty fair.
in the beginning i always needed the things whilst 20 hours in i had like 8 of them and just put them in random augments

Yes and it has a 5m explosion, it should kill everyone/do a lot of damage to everyone within that 5m or use less over-the-top explosions

they are both FPARPGs.
from what i know about the deus ex series, the actions you take can actually change events in the story and how people react to you... i'd say that is roleplaying, not your typical shooter.
the difference, i guess, is that the fallout series uses a system derived from a classic pen n paper roleplaying system while deus ex games do their own thing with stats and things... just the fact that there is XP and stats should tell you it is an RPG.
those things didn't start showing up in generic shooters until very recently and this is a series that is over a decade old.

@237,374 (!hEyBrieeXM)
yes, but the gunning is still completely shootery and not based on your gun skill points or something like that, also the level design is not rpg-y
