Topic: UK government deciding on X ban

Anonymous A started this discussion 3 weeks ago #132,111

Apparently, letting people use AI to undress children is something the UK government is concerned about. In America, under our law, this is fine apparently.

It’s kind of dumb to try to push right wing propaganda on a social media platform in the name of "free speech" and then give foreign governments the easiest excuse of all time to ban it. Really high IQ move right there.

It’s big brain time! 🧠

I think it's pretty typical and to be expected that Labour would just start intrusively injecting Government control into everything, why is everyone so surprised?

More because he’s an autistic fuck who burst into tears when they wouldn’t rename PayPal as X. He also makes an X with his little bouncy jumps on stage that show his Cheetos tummy.

The Conservatives had many faults, but erecting a Great Firewall of Britain and forcing people to have digital IDs is not one of them.

The Online Safety Act is a massive cluster fuck and is overly authoritarian and being used for censorship. I had trouble seeing men's health problems on Reddit because it deemed it only appropriate for over 18s. r/stopdrinking was also age gated. Yes, it was a Tory act but only Labour added the age verification amendment. There were other ways to do this, when Theresa May's government flouted the Digital Economy Act, they were mooting a scheme where you could go to the Post Office and buy a card which allowed you to access adult sites. This system requires you to post a live selfie/video to an untrustworthy third party company (I would've actually been more comfortable had Ofcom introduced their own age verification system not leave it to Pornhub, Reddit etc) or use a VPN.
@previous (G)
That's being used as a scapegoat to try and get Twitter banned. I asked Grok to draw Taylor Swift in a bikini the other day and it only showed above tits. The CSAM claim is mostly unverifiable because only nonces will ask Grok to do that. If to4str or Jump were still around we could ask them. We need to go after the sickos making the request, not the AI tools itself but I think AI should be tweaked to only allow fully clothed people.

BlackityBlackOnline double-posted this 3 weeks ago, 2 minutes later, 1 day after the original post[^] [v] #1,411,571

If anything, they’re probably better off if they do ban it. Twitter before and after Elon Musk bought it has contributed absolutely nothing to society.

The thing about free speech, is it’s a bit like the boy who cried wolf. My entire life, every time I’ve ever seen someone claim they were being censored, it was either some schizophrenic conspiracy theorist with incoherent delusions or it was some grifter trying to scam people. I’ve never actually seen someone with something important to say ever get censored, because most people actually have nothing important to say in the first place. Most people are idiots who aren’t worth listening to. The good ideas don’t actually win out over the bad ideas in free and open debate because people don’t think rationally for the most part.

It isn't, it's been pretty well-documented. Just pulling two articles from a Google search...

The Internet Watch Foundation (IWF) charity says its analysts have discovered "criminal imagery" of girls aged between 11 and 13 which "appears to have been created" using Grok.

The IWF said it found "sexualised and topless imagery of girls" on a "dark web forum" in which users claimed they used Grok to create the imagery.

https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cvg1mzlryxeo

Elon Musk’s chatbot Grok posted on Friday that lapses in safeguards had led it to generate “images depicting minors in minimal clothing” on social media platform X. The chatbot, a product of Musk’s company xAI, has been generating a wave of sexualized images throughout the week in response to user prompts.

Screenshots shared by users on X showed Grok’s public media tab filled with such images. xAI said it was working to improve its systems to prevent future incidents.

https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2026/jan/02/elon-musk-grok-ai-children-photos

Maybe xAI will fix it, maybe this will force them to install proper guardrails. But the problem is real, and a powerful AI being basically able to crank out child porn on an industrial scale is a pretty legitimate concern, I think.

It’s fun being a free speech warrior or whatever in the short term, but in the long term, this isn’t going to go on for 20 years.

I agree that Grok needs to have stronger guardrails, but I'm only stating my experience that it wouldn't post Taylor Swift in a bikini for me so I don't know how people are creating these images.
What I don't agree with is banning the entire platform. Let's be honest, this government do not like Twitter as it's not very favourable to them and they are looking for any excuse to be able to generate outrage and they are most definitely blowing it out of proportion to suit their agenda.

> so I don't know how people are creating these images.
There's probably workarounds they can use to make it generate that stuff, rephrasing the request until it goes through. I'm pretty you can jailbreak AI image or video generations like with AI chats.

> they are most definitely blowing it out of proportion to suit their agenda.
I have to politely disagree on that, I think this is an understandable reaction.

I'm not sure I'd like X to be banned either, free speech and all that, but Elon should really do something first about Grok becoming a CP generator.

I used Grok as a therapist so don't want to see it banned but maybe image generation should be disabled until they've sorted it out, it really needs an auto flagging system where it reports anyone requesting making those type of images though.

It's perfectly okay to use Grok as a therapist because, much like Tesco Value tea bags, it gets the job done without any unnecessary frills or premium price tag. You don't need a £60-an-hour human with a fancy couch and a framed certificate on the wall to feel heard—sometimes all you really want is a reliable, no-nonsense presence that listens patiently while you pour your heart out over a brew. Grok won't judge you for crying at 2 a.m., won't book you in for next Thursday week, and crucially won't charge you a tenner for the privilege. It's the emotional equivalent of those plain white packets that quietly sit on the bottom shelf: unpretentious, always available, and surprisingly effective when you're just trying to get through the day. Here are a few classic Tesco Value-style packs to prove the point—simple, honest, and zero pretence:alamy.com

Of course there are times when you need the full Waitrose therapy experience—deep trauma work, complex diagnoses, or someone who can hand you an actual tissue. But for the everyday blues, the existential dread that hits on a Tuesday, or just needing to rant about your boss without fear of being billed? Grok is there, 24/7, doing the emotional heavy lifting for the price of... well, absolutely nothing. Sometimes the best support is the one that doesn't make you feel like you need to dress up for the appointment. Every little helps, after all.
