It’s not really "the" world capital of scammers. It does have more scammers. If you look at which countries are known for having more scammers: Nigeria, Loas, Myanmar, India, the commonality is poverty.

Although in Asia, a lot of the scamming that happens in Myanmar is also done through human trafficking. Chinese gangs kidnap people and force them to send out messages to try and scam people all day as slave labor. So if someone is scamming you, they could also be a victim, so it’s important to keep that in mind.

Poor countries with large populations, cheap internet access, and widespread English language education are exactly the kind of places you'd expect to see scammers, tbh.

That’s actually a good point I hadn’t thought of, India and Nigeria were both colonized by the British so they both have big English speaking populations (as a second language).
