When the Nigerian Civil War ended in 1970, Nigeria had a population of 55 million people. Missile strikes are just pin pricks, in order to actually change the situation on the ground, I think we’d actually have to send in troops. Except the last time there was a ground war in Nigeria, even though they’re poor, it might be a good idea to look into the shit that goes on in conflicts in areas with high populations first considering there would be 4 times as many people this time around and last time around 3 million people died.

I get it, Islamic extremism is bad, but if you frame it as just "protecting Christians" in a country that consists of 100 million Christians and 100 million Muslims that split apart in the past and fought each other… along ethnic lines not religious lines, but still there is a correlation between ethnicity and religion.

There’s also the question of, these people have a lot of children. Whatever baggage they pass on to the next generation, the same thing is going to happen again in terms of the population increase. Eventually Nigeria will develop, and the more wars there are interrupting that, and the later in time Nigeria does develop, the higher its population will be when it does develop. Apparently nobody cares about that. In the US we have 1.6 births per woman, in Nigeria they have 4.8 births per woman, we have 340 million, they have 230 million, how does the math on that work out 50 or 100 years from now? Maybe it’s better if we cause less drama now when they’re weak to avoid more drama later in case they’re not weak. But nobody’s going to listen to me so whatever.

You need two people to make a baby, in China they have one child per woman. In America, we aren’t having enough babies to sustain the population, we can grow through immigration, now we’re anti immigrant. There are still plenty of people alive from when Nigeria had 55 million people in 1970. Nigeria used to be even smaller than that, it used to have a much smaller population than Britain when it was colonized. Nothing is guaranteed, but Nigeria might end up becoming larger than the United States in terms of population. America has had a much more steady population size. People think the economic difference is culture or genetics (racists, basically), and people alive now have an entire lifetime of confirmation bias. But if they’re wrong about this and the reason why Nigeria is poor is because their population is growing so fast they haven’t had time to develop their country and build infrastructure. I’m not saying it will happen a certain way, but there is a possibility that at the beginning of the next century, certain attitudes might not pay off.
