Nice joke at https://forums.freebsd.org/threads/firefox-to-go-full-ai-with-new-ceo.100805/, where a guy says
"Hey chatGPT how do I strip out all the AI crap from firefox"

Time to choose your overlord. Even Brave and Duckduckgo ship with this nonsense now and they used to be about privacy (and selling VPN subscriptions or whatever I guess too).

That is true, Waterfox or whatnot may buy some time. Still feels like fishing turds out of the punch after the fact.

Too be honest I think people are over reacting. So long as it's not shipping data away that isn't explicitly inputted into it and it can be disabled easily (as most FF things can already) it's what ever.

New CEO pushing new ideas that people are untrustworthy of is a tale as old as time.

At least Firefox felt like an actual alternative to Google. Brave and DuckDuckGo's browser are both Chromium – not that I believe Chromium is somehow hiding spyware but it felt nice to be able to escape from Google entirely. Brave, DuckDuckGo, Edge, Opera, it's all just Chromium still.

Waterfox was always a decent Firefox alternative and I'm glad they are principled and don't add random bloat or "AI".

I'm tired of updating Firefox and finding it's installed (or re-enabled) some new "feature" I then have to disable in the settings or about:config. I don't want a VPN, or a cloud-based password manager, or a cloud-based reading list, or an AI assistant, or a "data breach monitor", or whatever else, and I don't want those things advertised to me in the browser UI either. I just want a speedy browser that works; I'd even pay for it.

If it stays as limited as "Some AI features you can fully disable" that's fine, but Mozilla have shown they're obsessed with adding bloat and ignoring user feedback.

The tech billionaires have convinced Trump ChatGPT and Grok are going to defeat the Chinese military.

Can you imagine the United States planning out a war with China based on an AI generated response?

Nobody wants more AI except people with no brains.

This is AI generated entertainment. You can’t tell me the machine that created that is intelligent.

AI is nothing without bundled plagiarism and theft from human creators. What the fuck was that?
