He's a goofy little preacher at a goofy little church, and he's only known because of his predictions. His eschatology is fucked up even by evangelical standards. (Your typical Bible thumper won't believe in a specific endtime date because the Bible specifically prohibits it.)
It's not that different from telling people there's going to be a nuclear disaster or environmental meltdown or whatever other disaster non-religious people think will end the world (except for the specific time frame). Is it the fact that he's religious that makes you think he shouldn't be able to share his views? It's not like yelling "fire" in a crowded theatre or something, any rational person will just write it off.
