Fuck your cookies.

Fuck tracking scripts.

Fuck Cloudflare.

Fuck captcha's.

Fuck sites that break completely without Javascript.

> Fuck your cookies.
Without cookies you wouldn't be able to log in or persist settings. A website without cookies is feasible if you're serving a static wall of text or something. (You can technically maintain sessions with URL parameters or other awkward hacks, but that's not realistic for most use cases.)

> Fuck tracking scripts.
Knowing who your users are, what they're doing, and where they came from is valuable, especially if you're running a site for profit. You can do a lot with server-side analytics (Piwik or AWStats are good for this) but it only goes so far.

> Fuck Cloudflare.
Cloudflare holds up half the web. I don't miss the days of anyone being able to fire up LOIC and knock you offline, or paying exorbitant bandwidth fees when an army of bots and scrapers decide to intrude. It's annoying that Cloudflare outages take so many sites offline, but the benefits of Cloudflare are worth it to most website operators.

> Fuck captcha's.
CAPTCHAs are still critical to keeping bots at bay, although less so nowadays, largely thanks to CDNs like Cloudflare and their heuristics.

> Fuck sites that break completely without Javascript.
Is your ideal website just a wall of text with zero interactivity? Minichan is pretty fucking barebones by modern standards (by 2010 standards too) and even we need JS for things like polls and the CAPTCHA and email obfuscation and so on.

What I really mean is sites that use hundreds of tracking cookies and scripts, I don't mind cookies per se.

> Is your ideal website just a wall of text with zero interactivity?

No but it should work with Javascript disabled or offer alternatives.

Minichan comes pretty close to what I think more sites should be like. I hate how many VPN's are blocked here though

Sadly I can't imagine the trend is going to reverse any time soon lol. Users nowadays expect the sort of features you mainly get on JS-heavy sites. Even people building minimalist web UIs will inexplicably insist on bundling fifty JS frameworks for snazzy animations/transitions and whatever else.

But yeah, Minichan doesn't have any third-party cookies (the only cookies we place are to assign your UID/SID and remember visited threads), and we don't have any tracking scripts or analytics whatsoever, and you'll only see a CAPTCHA for your UID's first five posts. You can load threads and reply with Javascript disabled too. And we don't block VPNs or Tor (but we do block IPs that appear in StopForumSpam's database, which is sadly a lot of VPN endpoints and Tor exit nodes).

I think it might. Like I think there will be a trend towards human made content as AI grows

That’s for survival. I was on sites that ended up log in only or went offline because of the autistic fuckers with BDP who have a tantrum and post illegal content or flood the board otherwise.

Even commercial shopping sites are a cesspool, all the big retailers have "sponsored content" injected right into the pages. If it's not viable to be an honest retailer and sell products without raping their data and tricking them into clicking on drop shippers... the internet is a broken and failed experiment.
