Somewhat recently (within the last couple months) a house in my neighborhood installed a Ring camera that obnoxiously shouts at you every time you walk by their house, "HI. YOU ARE CURRENTLY BEING RECORDED." It's so fucking loud and jarring. Like imagine it's a nice peaceful morning, all you hear are birds chirping, old women watering their flowerbeds, the hum of cars a couple block over. And then suddenly this loud fucking voice shrieks into your ear. I get if it's set up such that it goes off if you're on their property, but bitch I'm on the fucking sidewalk!
I don't know why it makes me so god damned angry, every time. I know it's coming so it doesn't even catch me off guard anymore, but it still makes me mad. Unfortunately this house is on the path that I've walked every single day since I moved into this neighborhood over a year ago. I hate to have to change my walk behavior just to avoid this camera. Instead I just give it the finger every time I walk by.
Why do people do this? Why are they so paranoid? What exactly do they believe themselves to be accomplishing by setting up their cameras in this way? This is a nice neighborhood, it's not like we live in the fucking hood. Ironically the setting is making me feel compelled to trespass and commit property damage by ripping down the damn thing and stomping on it.

Absolutely not a law here. Basically every house in my neighborhood has cameras and this is literally the only one that does this (at least from the street)

Ah, I assumed that was a gimmick motion detector. My neighbor has one too down at the sidewalk level, always goes off when I'm outside... meaning he's 100% recording my house. This timeline can bite my ass.

Ring seems like a good idea. It’s ruined NextDoor.
It’s always the same woman with BLM and “In this house we believe” signs in her front yard panicked about a black teenager in a hoodie walking within 100 feet of her front door.

I just don't know anymore. Yeah, cameras and drones and such are fun if you're at the controls, but they annoy the rest of us on the other side.
