Given how amazing German classical music was, from Bach to Beethoven to Brahms, it's surprising how utterly shit the vast majority of their pop and rock music has been.

I had to look that up and yes, it's mostly a bunch of rock bands I've barely/never heard from the 1990's. Bu but but... Rammstein?? -- can't carry the entirety of German music.

My panzer dummy thick and the clap of its ass prevents it from conquering Leningrad stealthily. When the engine stalls I gotta nut in it. That’s what gets me going, fighting Hitler’s war of choice, but ain’t nobody pro choice.

I’m surprised your favorite German composer isn’t Richard Wagner. Others call gunfire the sound of war, but Wagner calls it the sound of music. Personally, I’m not into Viking metal.
