Topic: How to reverse a sleep schedule?

Anonymous A started this discussion 15 years ago #13,080

My brother has been waking me up earlier from my usual schedule, but the problem still remains that I fall asleep around nine o'clock or so. I tried going to bed around midnight, but that doesn't help since I always still fall asleep around eight to nine o'clock. Which basically leaves me awake in bed for all of those precious hours. How do you successfully reverse a sleep schedule?

Stay up for 24 hours and then go to sleep at the time you want to start feeling tired at.

Also OP is toastr.

Skip a night of sleep. It will be hell, but if you last through the day, you should be back to normal.

Also, sup to4str.

You normally fall asleep around 9 a.m. right? So the next time it gets to be around that time, don't fall asleep. Stay up until 8 or 9 p.m. and then fall asleep. That should fix your sleep schedule.

That is what I thought too until I realized that I'm just staying up during the day AND night which is clearly not good.
Around those hours, I just cannot fall asleep. The same goes for midnight, one, or two.

Weird. What do you do to fix your sleep schedule then?

@previous (A)
So you've tried staying up for a full 24 hours with no luck? Have you tried sleeping pills?

I have tried a melatonin pill, but after having some very weird terrifying dreams I've been afraid to ever use them again.

@OP
Stop eating during the 12-16 hour period before you want to be awake. Once you start eating again, your internal clock will be reset as though it is the start of a new day. Your body will consider the time you break your fast as your new "morning."

For example, if you want to start waking up at 2:00 am, you should start fasting between 10:00 am or 2:00 pm the previous day, and don't break your fast until you wake up at 2:00 am. Make sure you eat a nice healthy meal to jumpstart your system.

See if you can push what time you go to sleep forward a little every day. An hour, at the tops.

@235,452 (A)
It'd [probably] help in general if you started focusing on eating actual meals rather than just snacking all the time.

Eh. It's easier to just snack on something constantly. Because then you never really get that kind of hungry where your stomach hurts. I like that kind of hungry. :')

What sorta stuff d'you usually snack on? Like vegetables, or Doritos, or?

@previous (swamplights !!V3J448+/B)
Because then you don't have to really make anything, just pick up a box of crackers and nom constantly.

I'm going to try to fix my schedule by smoking two bowls and then coning home and laying down right away.

I figure I'll just pass out eventually right?

Sometimes. I'm not used to smoking two bowls to myself, so I should be more effected. There have been nights where I smoke a few bowls with friends and then come right home and pass out, other times I'll be awake till 4am, its kinda hit and miss

Edit:that's why I'm going to try doing it soon. If I pass out, I'll wake up around 4-6am (hopefully) and if It wakes me up, I can shoot for going to sleep by 11/12

Insomnia has fucked up my schedule so many times over the years, I know that feel bro. The most reliable way I've found to fix a borked sleeping schedule is to go to bed as you normally do, but then only sleep 3-4 hours, wake up and you'll be tired and be able to fall asleep at a decent time, but you have to get up early again, only sleep for like 6 hours so you'll be tired again at a decent time. Rinse and repeat as necessary, it may take a few days, but if you get up after only a little sleep, it will work. Good luck.

Take a cool not hot shower. Turn down the lights and start to relax. You should also try taking a melatonin supplement. These things all help me sleep better.

lol my sleep schedule is constantly shifting. i usually just go with it and do things i need to do when i am awake at the appropriate times to do them, but i can do this if i need to be awake for something i know about in advance or if i feel like being a normal person who is awake during the day.
