Self defense only ever works if your opponent is stupid enough to not kill you with the first blow. If you have a gun, it doesn’t matter if someone comes up behind you and slits the side of your neck so that blood can’t flow to your brain anymore. You’re going to be on the floor unconscious before you can pull a gun out out, turn around, aim it and fire it.
