Topic: Trump & Nigeria

For context the United States sells weapons to Nigeria to fight terrorism and now he wants to put sanctions on Nigeria because he blames the Nigerian government for the actions of the terrorists they were killing with the help of the United States.

They’re literally fighting the terrorists with US weapons, WTF are they supposed to fold to! It’s stupid. That’s like blaming Ukraine for Ukrainians getting killed in Ukraine by Russia.

It’s like people think in Nigeria there’s no difference between the government and the terrorists because they’re all black so it must be the same. This is like if China sanctioned the US government because the US has too many school shootings.

Niger: pro Russian authoritarian African country

Nigeria: pro western democratic African country that gets its weapons from both the US and China

Trump: "Yeah let’s stop supporting the Nigerian military."

If they get their weapons from the US and China if the weapons from America stop coming, what do you think Nigeria is going to do? Something that’s not in our best interest!

Throwing a few soldiers at it to give the impression you are doing something isn't enough.

They're responsible for the governance, and need to put significant resources into stopping the genocide.

Anonymous H double-posted this 2 months ago, 4 minutes later, 1 day after the original post[^] [v] #1,399,605

I mean don’t get me wrong, terrorism is terrorism, but claiming it’s genocide seems like a bit of a stretch if you’re talking about thousands of Christians dying in a country where there a hundred thousand thousand Christians.

It’s also not just a problem that’s easy to solve because half of Nigerians are Muslim. The Nigerian military can’t just kill half their country’s population to stop the terrorism, a lot of the soldiers fighting the Islamic extremists are Islamic, they have to actually figure out who the terrorists are and where the terrorists are, which requires funding their intelligence agencies, but they’re a poor country, so putting sanctions on Nigeria doesn’t help Nigeria do that.

It doesn’t freaking matter dude. You can’t win a war with air strikes. If the US has to put American troops on the ground to try and occupy a country with a population 2/3rds the size of the US, it doesn’t matter if we win, that’s gonna bankrupt us.

Good thing they arent trying to occupy Nigeria.

Droning Boko Haram with some collateral damage is the actual risk if Nigeria doesn't do what they need to.

The president already ruled out unilateral strikes by the US, do he could say its an act of war, but what then? Nigeria can't retaliate, and the US did what they wanted to by that point.

This isn't a game of Risk.

It is actually a conspiracy made up by the Chinese to advantage ethnic minorities in China.

You mention Japanese people and Chinese people. You do realize that most black people believe in God and a lot of blacks in America and in Africa, hundreds of millions in Africa actually are Christian. Japanese people and Chinese people by and large do not believe in God, and you say this.

I don’t know where you get your information or your ideas from but your worldview is very skewed. If you’re a right winger, take some time, do some research, and google world maps of what countries have policies and laws you agree with. The truth is that Sub Saharan Africa is more religious and more conservative than Japan or China and their culture is more similar to your own than Japan or China in terms of their religious beliefs. But certain people have an incentive for you to not realize that.
