Claude made me an astronomy simulator that let you add new planets and rewind time, it ran in the browser and took 10 minutes of chat.

@previous (C)
So it created something that already existed in its training data?

It only saw at least 43 copies of the thing it created, obviously that makes it intelligent.

Maybe people just underestimate how much free open source software already exists. There’s already like 10 identical versions of everything.

So like humans it learns from what already exists.

Why does that matter?

The joke before was that programmers would just use google to find code snippets and piece them together to get a working product.

If LLMs can assist programmers and make them faster at that, that's less human work that needs to go into it.

I just don’t understand how anyone can find this impressive. I’ve tried AI code generation tools before, they freaking suck.

No it’s not. If you can work faster, they’ll just make you work more.

It’s literally easier to just type out code myself and get what I want then try and explain what I want, have the AI generate the wrong thing, I have to wait for it to load, it throws and error, I tell it to fix the error, it doesn’t know how, it’s such an annoying process compared to just doing it myself.

That and the bloat is crazy, they generate way more code than is actually necessary.

There's endless examples of people vibe coding a personal project quickly, getting them an app that's personalized exactly how they want it.

Companies invest in automation so they can spend less on labor, not more.

Claude is good at optimizing software, and can explain the principles it used to rewrite code to be more efficient.

You do realize that there’s a lot more to software development than what the user interface looks like right?

⚫️ double-posted this 3 months ago, 3 minutes later, 3 hours after the original post[^] [v] #1,398,409

A lot of important software in the world runs on devices that don’t have any user interfaces at all.

Do you think there's something stopping LLMs from writing back end code?

Anonymous C double-posted this 3 months ago, 24 seconds later, 3 hours after the original post[^] [v] #1,398,412

@1,398,409 (⚫️)
And it can write those too... What point are you trying to make here?

⚫️ replied with this 3 months ago, 44 seconds later, 3 hours after the original post[^] [v] #1,398,413

@1,398,411 (C)
You don’t see how this could go wrong? You don’t see how vibe coding a backend is a bad idea?

Really? You can’t think of one reason?

⚫️ double-posted this 3 months ago, 1 minute later, 3 hours after the original post[^] [v] #1,398,414

Do you want to log into your bank account and know that the person who made that backend that your money is stored in never read the code, and generated all of it with AI?

Anonymous C replied with this 3 months ago, 19 minutes later, 3 hours after the original post[^] [v] #1,398,423

@1,398,413 (⚫️)
People already use it to save them time. And you're just alluding to problems, but you clearly can't think of a single one since you aren't actually mentioning any specific limitations.

Someone could over-rely on it if they tried to use it for everything today, it's a useful tool not a flawless miracle machine.

No, which is why I never said that. Important financial software does need to be read and understood.
