Topic: Atlantic meridional overturning circulation

DarkDude started this discussion 3 months ago #130,081

So you know how Europe is livable and has hundreds of millions of people even though if you look at a map of the world, Europe is as far north as parts of Canada and Russia that are so cold they’re unlivable and very underpopulated?

Well, apparently the reason why is because of a thing called the Atlantic meridional overturning circulation or AMOC for short, which is a very unstable system cased by the circulation of ocean currents in the Atlantic. Some people believe that climate change has been weakening the AMOC and some people believe that it may theoretically be possible for the AMOC to eventually collapse entirely resulting in Europe having weather conditions more similar to Canada in the future.

Tbh I think somehow someone will find the solution to climate change and this will never happen because nothing ever happens and the world hasn’t been very exciting recently so it will probably continue to be boring for the rest of my life.

Now that I think about it it would have made more sense to have two links, one for the optimistic case one for the pessimistic case… eh, but I’m lazy.
