So? Some scientific achievements. They also sent hundreds of sailors to their deaths in badly made submarines. Perestroika and Glastnost weren’t about democracy. They were about shedding practices that left them irrelevant in the computer age and with the advent of smart weapons that would negate their rank advantage in Europe. The greatest irony was the command economy’s reliance on a laissez faire black market, from which various nations’ politburos and secret police profited.

I’m not making this up, they sunk the exact same submarine 3 times and everyone on board died each time, but they just kept trying. A couple of the crew members were slaves, but from what I was able to find, somehow the slaves got lucky and didn’t die but everybody else did.

Upon looking further into it, the explanation is that slaves were expensive and they didn’t want to give any credit to blacks for inventing a new form of technology, so they opted to crew the submarine with whites instead of blacks, which ironically resulted in more white deaths, which is pretty fucking stupid if you think about it.
