It’s interesting how we had to fight the Vietnamese communist party, but now that they won, and that was decades ago, nobody is mad at the Vietnamese communist party.

Now Vietnam is just another less developed country that’s safe enough that creepy white guys can go there for sex tourism, but still poor enough they can bribe the police. White men don’t go to Nigeria for sex tourism because they think they’ll get killed by criminals, and they don’t go to China for sex tourism because they think they’ll get killed by the government. It’s like a second Thailand.

I tired thinking of another Asian example for the first one, but the first thing that came to mind is Myanmar. But it doesn’t work in that context because even though the criminals will kill you in Myanmar, so will the government.

Under or non enforcement of crimes committed by Asians is deep in American history. We let the Chinese self police even as violence by the Tongs and hatchet men exploded. Same in modern times. There is plenty of crime, including bizarre slavery at noodle factories, and nobody bothers. Korean crime is gambling and prostitution and the authorities only care about big yield gambling and really not much at all about prostitution or trafficked women.
