If everything requires ID and is treated like "banking" it's absolutely a problem. What could work are onramps and offramps to other services so you can use a service you trust rather than having all transactions logged by the government (might still be logged by corporations but that's another discussion).

Great points. Cash and gift cards give some discretion. Our spending already is tracked by the credit bureaus. Fully digital turns all of us into ledgers.
