The US government couldn't win against poor guerilla fighters that were completely socially disconnected from its military.

If they had to fight millions of domestic, 1st world, often trained fighters in their own country? Their own military would be conflicted, wherever they attacked would be people that were neighbors and family to the troops. And they'd be bombing their own economic engines, which would cannabalize their tax base.

The US can resist authoritarianism because the 2nd amendment would make a war untenable, and protracted for so long the mutinies from patriots and the inability to disrupt economic operations make it impossible for the feds to do so.
