Topic: I haven't saved money since childhood

The Saver !bgiyj0FXSw started this discussion 4 months ago #129,051

When I was a child I put money away for a subscription to Scientific American magazine. I'm pretty sure that is the last time I saved money. In the intervening years I've always been able to rely on my parent's money to pay for unexpected things or expensive purposes. After my mother died, my father said that it was coming off my inheritance. He's not around anymore and the inheritance is all gone.

So I never experienced saving. I'm starting today. Saving money. I'm taking you along for my journey. Let's see how much I have saved a year from now.

Pro tip for saving money: look at how much you earn in a month and then spend less than that consistently.

Buy in bulk, everything is cheaper in bulk. Especially drugs

Worry less about saving and worry more about pension.

Hey, I like it! Get on that.

I'm trying to save up a month of expenses myself. The financial dorks say 6 months and I'm like, what?? Where am I going to find $25,000?? I'm bleeding cash lol. I'd be happy with a month in savings.

You have to learn to STEAL money. It's the actual part that helps saving money.

since you apparently can't afford to accumulate belongings, you may as well find a job where you could hide away and sleep there instead of paying rent to some fuckface

Okay so I’m keeping track of my money every day, at midday. Today it’s $1.18 in the bank and $0.30 in cash. So $1.48 in total.

I’m making some rules. No buying shoes unless I have to. I’ve got running shoes, casual shoes and job interview/funeral shoes. I’m not buying any casual or running shoes for a while. I’ve got a total of 7. That’s 5 too many.

That's a lot of shoes!
