Topic: Anybody drink the real tea?

I buy the expensive stuff, or well, just not the stuff that's actually just dust. still cheaper than drinking sugar water. Plus you can pretend to be better than everybody else while still paying homage to the working class by adopting their tradition of double steeping

Absolutely. There is room for both though, Chinese tea is the real deal and very affordable.

Ah but it's not that simple is it? You can't just go by county of origin alone i think

Have any of you seen those videos of how Chinese people drink tea? Such as tossing out the first steep and such? Its pretty interesting

That's weird, I thought most of the good stuff was in the first steep

It seems as though the first steep is supposed to "open up" the tea leaves to give maximum flavor or something

They also have this little tea pets where you pour that first steep onto them. They're usually little clay animals

Huh makes sense come to think about it, whatever that is that coats the cup... You probably get less of it with more surface area that the animal gives, and the second steep doesn't have the same strong taste but I do feel like I taste more things although just in subtle ways

You toss the cup onto the pet. Not in the cup

Huh. Then I really don't get it. Unless it's a way to respect spirits

They are meant to be good luck

I bet it started with a guy honoring what the clay figure represented though, he probably just explained it as for good luck to onlookers but deep down he was thinking "you deserve some tea too buddy"
