Palanatir is amazing, I love the Republican Party, I think homosexuality is awesome, I love authoritarianism, I love Satan and the antichrist. I think Peter Thiel is Satan and that’s actually good. Wouldn’t you rather know who Satan is?

"Apartheid wasn’t bad, the rich white guy from apartheid South Africa just can’t stop talking about how he wants to manifest the antichrist as an authoritarian state using technology."

And I agree with this. That sounds not bad. We should hear Satan out. How can we know Satan is bad? Free speech!

The tech guys are butthurt that they’re no longer revered as demigods by the public and media. They’ve been exposed as insular, arrogant, and greedy, intent on building palaces and seizing Greenland and building bugout retreats in New Zealand. No more Industry Standard, Wired, and WSJ profiles on their greatness.

Unlike the robber barons of old, these assholes lack empathy and won’t build museums and universities.

All that money and he can’t hire somebody to tell him to stop talking about the antichrist, techno feudalism, and transgender Orthodox Christianity.

I mean he has enough money to get rid of his boyfriend but he doesn’t have enough money for PR?

Yeah, that’s not suspicious at all.

We could if all the environmentalists would stop complaining that Florida sinking beneath the waves is a bad thing.

It's not going to matter, AI is going to jack up the energy prices so much that we might consider using books as coal substitutes

Well for me it represents realism. What is the point of training genius people to remember stuff that brutish slobs like me can figure out in mere seconds? There's something like a disconnect here

Don’t get me wrong, I think the trades are fundamental to the functioning of society, but anything medicine related, I want people to go to college and not cheat.

Alright I see the issue yet the point stubbornly stands. Where I live, people openly complained before AI, what's the point of going to a doctor that just googles your issues? The world is changing and we just can't act like easily accessible knowledge is a bad thing. If we did, we might as well be old school Catholics arguing the bible should stay latin, that only priests should be the qualified translators

Well I am Catholic.

@previous (H)

Yeah but not old-school catholic. The Catholics might be the only true christians, I don't believe it but I am willing to say so to downplay perceived hostility towards them.

The point is, knowledge is more easily accessible and when that happens there's chaos that challenges old hierarchies, but even with the chaos (like the wars between protestants and Catholics) the results are a better world where everyone is more empowered.

To be fair, the Protestant British Empire was basically equally as brutal as the Catholic Spanish and Portuguese Empires. More or less exactly the same thing happened in the United States and Brazil, some Europeans came, killed a bunch of natives, brought some black slaves over, became independent, became democracies, etc. If England never converted to Protestantism, I think the only difference would be maybe the Irish would like them a bit more. Knowledge and intelligence also aren’t necessarily the same thing.

The Spanish actually had a plan to invade the British isles to re-estate the Catholic Church in England. They planned on landing in Ireland, and then helping the Irish locals to revolt to take over England. But Ireland has the highest cliffs in Europe so most of the Spanish ships crashed and the queen ordered all the survivors to be executed. But if they had a better invasion plan, the trajectory of history where the United States is a Protestant country instead of a Catholic one wasn’t inevitable.

Ah true, I'm no historical literate man but I do see patterns sometimes. As we see knowledge easily accessible by the masses, there will be a inevitable pushback.

In America for example, it would seem individual churches guide their followers in almost abhorrent ways, which means you get people disillusioned with the church, the European christians can only watch in horror.

So I argue we will get something similar, somewhere in the world we will get doctors who are actually just AI, and although this will empower some people, it will also harm others... So as a counter we get state regulated AI doctors who have human administrators.

I think AI in medicine isn’t inherently bad. Computer vision in medical imaging is a good application for example.

Yes, and just imagine, in many ways the mentally ill will benefit from this doctor as long as it isn't just a doctor designed to keep you talking to it. People trust a AI more with their secrets, because people judge, people take advantage.
