It works surprisingly well and leaves no odor. It seems to much cleaner burning than Zippo fluid, and is way cheaper.

Not to mention all the other uses grain alcohol has.

All fuels evaporate from zippo lighters. Some faster than others. Yes, alcohol evaporates a little bit faster.

I know jack about the combustion of alcohol, but I know lighter fluid releases all sorts of nasties during combustion.

Which explains the smell. I can play with an alcohol lighter for hours and there's no smell. It's much more clean burning.
