Topic: Why do miserable foreigners remain in China?

mmkunmingteacher started this discussion 5 months ago #128,646

I do not mean this post to sound negative, because the majority of people I have met in China — both Chinese and foreign — are great people and my friends. But I guess I have been a little down lately because of a few foreigners (Westerners) who seem to hate China and complain about everything, yet they live their entire lives here.

As an example, one person I know made a huge deal, in front of a very kind Chinese person, that "all Chinese food is terrible, from any province! It's all disgusting!" Then, people get all excited over Burger King and badmouth Chinese food.

Next, I have lately had a few foreigners tell me something like, "I don't even try to speak that stupid Chinese. If they can't speak English, then I have no need for them."

And I know some Westerners who only hang out with other Westerners, only eat Western food at Western restaurants, only do Western things in a little Western world.

Moreover, the thread here about Random Acts of Kindness has so much vitriol and negativity about China that some people are actually arguing that it is WRONG to help someone in need.

I am just really down about this. I have to wonder, why do some Westerners even live here? They seem to hate China, Chinese food, Chinese people, the Chinese language, Chinese culture, and everything else Chinese. They go on and on, complaining about how terrible everything is (while never actually interacting with China). Why are they even here? I could not imagine forcing myself to live in a place that made me so miserable and angry.

Again, please do not take this post the wrong way: it is just a show of my frustration. But I really do want to know. Any ideas?

Based on expatriate accounts, miserable foreigners sometimes remain in China due to financial dependency, feelings of being "trapped" after years abroad, and other barriers to leaving. While many foreigners enjoy living and working in China, others who become unhappy face significant challenges in repatriation, despite political tensions and strict government controls making life more difficult.

Elon Musk, eccentric billionaire founder of Tesla and SpaceX, underwent a secret lobotomy after descending into paranoia and delusion. Intended to “reset” his unstable mind, the off-the-books procedure went disastrously wrong, damaging key areas of his brain. Elon survived but lost his memory, ambition, and personality, becoming a hollow version of his former self. Removed from power, he lived in isolation, cared for by nurses and watched by his own drones. Occasionally, he muttered fragments of his past life, fixated on the stars. His brilliance was gone, leaving behind only a broken man and a single plea: “Send me back to SpaceX.”

Sorry about the lobotomy thing. I was bored and I wanted to share that AI slop then I realized your post was actually interesting.

Anyway… I’m a black guy living in the west, I was born in the west, I’ve lived in America my whole life, and every day I understand the way white Americans think less and less.

Apparently it was racist for blacks to be in universities because Asians deserved it more, then Trump wanted to kick out the Chinese students, revoke their visas all over the US, and kick all the international students out of Harvard. Just recently he said he wants 600,000 Chinese students to come into the country. Let’s see what he says next week. None of it makes any sense. Same thing with the tariffs…

Sorry for your loss. I am white however of a family inherited religion and in the minority. As a child I felt the hatred. Neighborhood felt the same towards blacks.
My dad stood up to neighbors who insisted on a fist fight. Did not end up well for the head of that hood. My parents raised me to respect blacks. Has worked for me.

My advice to you is that you do your best to stand out as better than the rest. Take advantage of what you can and try and ignore the many wrongs of USA. Every country has its problems.

I’m not suffering or anything. I was being kinda sarcastic. I just meant like, I literally just don’t understand the way people in my own country think lol. I mean obviously some white people are racist, most are okay. It’s just the trend with politics is leaning more towards normalizing not giving a shit about non-whites, basically. But they do flip flop a lot.

The relevance is OP was saying that it doesn’t make sense westerners stay in China if they don’t like China. But overall, that seems pretty consistent with the way whites in America think of Asians. The attitude is basically, they’re preferable to blacks but then once the blacks are out of the equation…

They eat western food because, it has less of a chance of being cooked in that infamous Recovered Oil from Chinese Sewage.

Why wouldn't they want a snack from the poopoo platter from time to time?
