Topic: reddit threads with thousands of comments are an enigma to me

boof started this discussion 5 months ago #128,622

who joins in to make a comment not attached to any previous top comment when there are too many comments to fucking read? they will have less reads than anything put on Minichan. why, I hazard that percentage wise, the average minichan reply has more readers than the average reddit reply.

Misunderstanding of how the internet works mostly - they only see OP and the top comment or two and are blind to the 998 comments that added nothing, they didn't read, then proceed to add nothing new but comment anyway.

I'd dunk on it more but it makes them feel like they're part of something... and I guess it makes them happy talking into the void.

There are a lot of comments where the poster clearly doesn't understand how the branching comment system works, clicks on the first "reply" button they see and respond to the wrong person.
