so, Occupy Portland has been going on for 5 days, and i'm thinking of going to hang out there and perhaps find out what this is really all about, since all you ever see online or on the news is soundbytes of two or three college students who are testing out their vocabularies...
has anyone here gone to an Occupy X event? what was it like?

yeah, i dunno... i just feel left out sometimes in conversations with college graduates because there's so much that EVERYONE who went to college is knowledgeable about that i'm not, and even though i can usually manage in these conversations, i come across as naive to these people because they can no longer effectively communicate their ideas without name dropping and using terms i don't understand.
maybe this is only a problem with certain people, but a lot of times i've have a discussions with the 'stereotypical hippie guy', they tend to dismiss what i'm saying because i wasn't exposed to all of the same exact ideas and terminology as them.
i feel that these people are only capable of preaching to the choir, because they won't let go of their precious words.

I think the whole point of the movement is to end corporate tax breaks along with something to do with holding Wall Street responsible for the current financial crisis.
Then you have the left wingers, the Ron Paul people and others...
It's just a bunch of angry jobless yuppies and college students fed up with the current economic situation and bitching, at least I think it is... lol

Well that's certainly what they've been yapping on about. Around the time they started getting media coverage and they question turned to "What are these people protesting over?," they all had their different motives. The underlying sentiment was "I'm tired of being exploited from the one percent."
Well, great. What's protesting over such a general statement going to do? Give fodder for mindless late-night talkshow fucks and news stations? Raise awareness of the shocking idea that the working class is being exploited, or perhaps give a new status indicator of sorts to pseudo-intellectual students?

this is exactly what i'm afraid that these events are for... i want to find out otherwise.
i would like to actually accomplish something, but i have no idea if 'Occupy X' can accomplish anything other than making some people feel like they are doing something.
i am conflicted on whether i should participate or not...
