Topic: Catholics, how do you view Peter Thiel sending Vance after the Pope?

Anonymous A started this discussion 5 months ago #128,317

Is it true that critics are only angry because he loves other men? Why are conservative catholics upset over losing a pope that was notoriously liberal in his theology?

@OP

> Why are conservative catholics upset

Most Catholics are significantly less conservative than atheists would have you believe. There are a lot of Catholics who are left leaning. The religion itself is older than the political spectrum so there’s part of it the far right likes and part of it the far left would like if they weren’t so anti religious.

Catholics also believe that the authority of the pope comes from the Holy Spirit (God basically), and that the pope has a closer connection to the Holy Spirit than anyone else, therefore the pope is infallible (the pope is technically an absolute monarch). So Catholics by enlarge tend to like the pope even if they don’t agree with the pope because the pope is the pope.

Tell me you know nothing of the Roman Senatorial factions, without telling me you know nothing of the Roman Senatorial Factions.

In terms of left vs right, it actually is older than the political spectrum.

Papal infallibility has a bunch of loopholes and caveats that make it kind of meaningless if they ever need to retcon a pope down the road
