It's worth $35 to get a basic bitch ship and explore what they've built. Avoid buying any of the expensive ship pledges or whatever. If you want to actually play the game, you can grind for in game currency to grab the game-ready ships or pay someone $1 on ebay for tons of pre-alpha credits, plus they frequently do expos where you can test drive them for free even without having the $35 starter pack.
