idk what people in the next age bracket up from me wear... As long as you have a pair of boots, a pair of low dress shoes, a pair of hi top skate shoes, and some vans or boat shoes of some kind you'll should be pretty right.

Get some Vans. Suitable for casual wear, smart casual, and everything in between. They're comfy, not over-the-top, but classy. They can be worn to a meeting, skateboarding, to the pub, down to the shops to get some milk bags, anywhere.

The different sneaker companies fit different, you'd be better off at least going into a store to see what you prefer before you order. I have wide feet and I hate adidas ;_;

I don't wear sneakers, Ive broken my toes enough times to wear steel toes everywhere. They have an added bonus of hurting like hell when you are kicked by one.
