It was heroic. It turned Japan from angry, militaristic jerks into cool and peaceful anime friends. More countries could benefit from that treatment.

Look at a map and wind patterns. Ukraine is just to close and great harm would happen.

The first bomb was dropped on Hiroshima on August 6th.

The second bomb was dropped on Nagasaki on August 9th to prove that the United States had more than one bomb.

The Japanese then proceeded to think about it for a month.

On September 2nd, 1945 the Japanese surrendered.

(This also ignores the Soviet invasion of Japanese Manchuria which happened on the same day as the United States dropped the second atomic bomb.) But people don’t like mentioning that… for some reason.

This is a fundamental misunderstanding of now nuclear weapons work. People used to watch nuclear tests from Las Vegas.

Nuclear weapons aren’t actually that dangerous. You can be close enough to see the light and be perfectly okay.
