It's certainly been a while.

How is Lakenheath today? More specifically, how's the Junior class of 2011-12 doing? It seems crazy to think it's been over two years since I first went to LHS. I still talk with [names withheld from psychotic fucktard trolls] on occasion.

More importantly, how have you been holding up? Still playing the guitar? You were definitely my favorite teacher at the school. I felt bad for you during lunch since it seemed primarily the crazy kids hung out there.

In retrospect, Mrs. Neupert was a great teacher. She definitely whipped me into gear. If you see her, give her my regard.

I'm still living in Tennessee, which is somewhat of a curse more than anything else. I suppose my main problem lies within my peer group. They really don't seem to be interested in anything I am, but that's more my fault than theirs. I've come to find the most satisfying feeling in the vacuousness of my existence is the acquiescence of knowledge, which primarily comes from reading. I wish my outlook on life wasn't so nihilistic, but it is what it is.

Have you heard of Kurt Vonnegut? He is by far my favorite author. I read the book Cat's Cradle earlier this year and was completely stunned. Right now I've been reading some Marxist writings, and I must say, while his theories make the ridiculous presumption that humans aren't morons, I've come to fancy most of his ideas. I've also been reading Crime and Punishment, and plan on getting into some more Dostoevsky later.

I'd like your opinion on something. As of now, I plan on majoring in English and minoring in Philosophy. A) Does this seem like a good idea in general; B) Do you have any colleges in mind with exceptional English programs? Philosophy is a big interest of mine, but of course there's only so much (read: nil) you can do with it in the "real" world. Nevertheless, I figured it would be a great supplement to an English course. What do you think?

Other than that, I guess it's fine, though I would seriously reconsider ending it with the bizarre "Painfully yours", unless it's a literary reference to something you think he'd get.

Also, if you want my 2 cents as a third year philosophy major, an English and Philosophy major/minor combination is fine if you want to go into teaching or you don't know what you want to do after college. If you have more concrete future plans (starting a particular kind of business, working for a particular company, etc.) then I'd definitely recommend majoring in something else which would help you achieve that specific future goal better than majoring in English would.
