Many IT personnel tend to get Macs in my experience, so it might be in your best interest. You won't have to worry about games distracting you from work or anything. Might be a good idea!

They are generally reliable machines and have a top-notch tech support (HUGE advantage). The only problem is that they are rather overpriced for what they are and you can usually get an equivalent machine for half the cost.

Yeah, Macs are really great for casual web surfers and artists with no technical skills. It's really nice to have a problem (which happens a lot because while I CAN draw, I can hardly figure out anything else becuase I'm so stipid) because Mac has tons, and tons of great tech support! In fact, they have so much invested in helping their idiot users that it's pretty obvious their products are shit and require a person to hold your hand just to fix something simple.
Anyways, it's nice to pay extra money to help fund all the advertisements Apple does. I love those commercials, lol!

You can get a better gaming computer for cheaper, for everything else Mac is great. I am an instructional designer, programmer and a 3d artist and I use a mac for all of that except final rendering in which I use a workstation renderer (not your average windows computer). It is simple for people who need a simple computer, the user interface design is perhaps the greatest I have ever encountered, but it also can do much much more advanced features for users and developers that know where to look (nothing windows can do it can't except obviously the mismatch of software between the OS's, but if you really wish you can install bootcamp and run a windows partition anyways that can access your osx files and vice versa).
