You revealed yourself the moment you said "whose Catherine".
I guess that community college didn't teach you the difference between "who's" and "whose", a decade later? Don't worry. Keep practicing and you'll be where the rest of us were 20 years ago, my child.
> > Perhaps he has chosen Islam because pedophilia excites him a little? > > Then I'm surprised he didn't join the catholic church.
How come liberal atheists think they’re clever by bringing up the sex abuse scandal in Massachusetts like the Catholic Church doesn’t have 1.4 billion followers and isn’t 2,000 years old? It’s like saying every American is a school shooter. It’s dumb.

It’s also dumb because they think they’re being progressive by bashing Catholics without realizing they’re holding onto a prejudice from their Protestant ancestors that Catholics are weird even though half of all Christians on Earth are Catholic and it was the original Christian church.

It’s also dumb because it’s not even close to the worst thing the church has ever done. If 1.4 billion people are still Catholic and we all know about the Spanish Inquisition and didn’t change our minds about anything, why do atheists think this is somehow supposed to be a dealbreaker for us? Just take a history class or something about medieval Europe and ask them what Catholics did to Jews and Muslims.

Originally the whole sex abuse scandal thing was originally published by the Boston Globe… that’s what the reference to Massachusetts is. It’s just annoying when people don’t know anything about Catholicism and they sound like a broken record talking about it.

Don’t get me wrong, sexual abuse is horrible and I’m completely against it. But you can’t reduce a religion that large down to nothing but "muh pedophile priests." It’s one of the world’s largest religions.

Like hypothetically, an equivalent is China has 1.4 billion people. There about the same number of Chinese people and Catholics. Obviously there are pedophiles in China, because no shit there are pedophiles in China, they have 1.4 billion people, but if you call all Chinese people pedophiles that makes you a racist.

Massive amounts of Sex abuse by Priests and even Pope and other high ranking heads of the church. All over the world.
Worst of all is how this is totally forgiven and made even easier to do over and over again. A priest can rape a child and even murder the child and be totally forgiven by the church.

I’m not denying that sexual abuse happens in the Catholic Church. What I’m saying is that you’re talking about an organization that’s 2,000 years old that has 1.4 billion followers. 18% of people on Earth are Catholics. It is impossible to have an organization that large and that old without any history of crime or of atrocities. The United States is only 200 years old and has a history of slavery and being the only nation in the world to ever drop a nuclear weapon on civilians. I feel like trying to reduce 2,000 years of history and 1.4 billion people down to that is just not effective. It will work on someone who doesn’t know anything about history and who isn’t Catholic in the first place.

I think people also have the wrong idea about what the Catholic Church actually is. It’s not the type of organization that you can get rid of. Even under Mussolini, a Fascist atheists dictator, even in the middle of a world war under an authoritarian state, they couldn’t get rid of the church. People underestimate how influential it actually is. It’s much older than any government. And despite what people say, if you look into the statistics, it’s growing not shrinking. It’s shrinking in developed countries, but it’s a global organization.

You still do not get it. Only the Catholic Church makes it easy for sex abuse. They will even move the abusing priest to another parish. With total forgiveness and zero downside the priest can go on and on. This does not happen in other religions.
When the police get involved the church will relocate the priest to another country that will not extradite the offender.
In the Churches eye the priest that is totally forgiven and done no wrong of any kind. The last Pope waved his finger at such offences and that was all. The new Pope was whisked out of the country to Rome to escape having to deal with accused priests.

If you think it doesn’t happen in other religions that’s pretty naive of you. It has nothing to do with religion, you probably think it doesn’t happen with police officers, tech CEOs, and politicians.

I also don’t agree with the idea that the bad diminishes the good. The Catholic Church is the type of organization that will spend 600 years building a Cathedral. I just feel like in the modern world the idea of doing something to benefit the world after you die isn’t a concept anymore. Like maybe that was a good thing.

Look, I don’t care if you don’t like the Catholic Church, I never asked anyone to be a Catholic. But I am a Catholic, and if you don’t want me to be a Catholic, no matter what you say to me, your only option will be to be unhappy with me forever.

How did Islam go from a Golden Age where its scientists hypothesized one could split an atom to destroy a city to crashing planes into buildings? Islamic countries once preserved the classics and encouraged learning, sought to expand the definition of martyrdom to encompass diseases and child birth. They ran the trade route with Asia.
Now, fewer books are translated into Arabic each year than are translated into Spanish just to be read in Spain.
Not to mention axis attacks, stonings, female genital mutilation…
