Tbh I’m Catholic and I like the Catholic Church, I’m just pointing out that like, the priest thing isn’t even in the top 10 worst things the church did over 2,000 years. Catholics are also overrepresented in the American government despite only 20% of Americans being Catholic, 6 out of 9 Supreme Court justices are Catholic, Joe Biden was Catholic, and JD Vance is Catholic. And there was a time when the Catholic Church was more powerful than governments in Europe. So that’s another thing also.

If you think about it from a financial perspective, even if you disagree with it or think that it’s immoral, what they’re doing is rational. They’re not giving into the sunk cost fallacy. If somebody sues a parish it’s more rational to let that individual parish die off instead of spending money on it just to have that money lost again later.
