Topic: 250,000 Cyberattacks Exploit Gen Z’s Love for Naruto

In a revelation that’s as surprising as finding filler episodes in a shonen anime, cybersecurity firm Kaspersky reports that over 250,000 cyberattacks have been disguised as popular anime content. Cybercriminals are exploiting the fervent devotion of Gen Z fans to series like Naruto, Demon Slayer, and Attack on Titan, luring them with promises of exclusive episodes and leaked scenes.
According to Kaspersky’s findings, between Q2 2024 and Q1 2025, there were 251,931 attempts to deliver malware or unwanted files under the guise of popular anime titles. Naruto led the pack with 114,216 attack attempts, followed by Demon Slayer with 44,200, and Attack on Titan with 39,433. Other targeted series included One Piece and Jujutsu Kaisen.
The modus operandi is as old as the internet itself: bait fans with tantalizing offers of unreleased content, then deliver malware instead. It’s the digital equivalent of a Trojan horse, but instead of Greeks, it’s filled with keyloggers and ransomware.
Kaspersky notes that over 65% of Gen Z regularly watch anime, making them prime targets for such schemes. The emotional investment in these series creates a vulnerability that cybercriminals are all too eager to exploit.
In response, Kaspersky has launched “Case 404,” an interactive cybersecurity game aimed at educating Gen Z about online threats.
