Are Ernie and Bert just friends and roommates, or live-in gay lovers?

Bert is Ernie's grandfather. He's been the legal guardian of his autistic grandson ever since the accident.

While the showrunners, if memory serves me, confirmed that they aren't gay. I understand the reasoning behind wanting to believe they're gay and even I believe they might be in a committed relationship myself. Mostly due to the little nuances and chemistry between the two of them. I would hope when the current political climate subsides, the showrunners give us that confirmation. As far as I'm concerned, there are currently no LGBTQIA+ characters on the show.

They are divorced from women. Living and working in New York City is expensive, so they put up with each other to save some rent expense.

I hear Ernie wants to go poly and bring a bear into the mix. Look out Fozzie.
