Topic: Poor white people

Anonymous A started this discussion 4 days ago #126,363

Something I always get a kick out of as a black dude is talking to poor white supremacists on the internet that have never been to Europe.

Like I was talking to this one guy that thought Poland was some white utopian paradise where it was clean and safe and everyone was rich. People just have no idea. Americans are just clueless.

Unironically, Detroit is wealthier per capita than Poland as a nation. It’s bad lol.

America's poorest state has a higher GDP per capita than the UK.

Every socialized service adds a net drag to the economy because there is no competition encouraging innovation, deadweight losses creating negative pressure on the economy, and a loss of incentive to work.

Privatize the NHS, give people the freedom to own a TV without a license, and deport the Pakis and the UK would rise to glory.

I’m not sure if that’s necessarily accurate. Ireland has a higher GDP per capita than the United States, and although their healthcare isn’t free, they have significantly higher income tax and their healthcare is significantly less expensive. So there are more factors at play.

I’ve been to Poland, you have no clue what you’re talking about. Actually visit Poland yourself and tell me it’s nicer than America. You’d have to be insane to believe that.

The median salary in Poland is 6,540 PLN or 1,648 USD per month. The median salary in the United States is about $5,000 / month. If you think your life would be better in Poland than the United States you’re insane.

If you actually believe right wing propaganda like there are no homeless people in Poland or there are no beggars just because they’re white, go there. Their beggars are much less polite about it than American beggars.

> Ireland has a higher GDP per capita than the United States

Ireland isn't the UK, and that figure is because they are a tax haven, most of that is just shell corporations, the wealth isn't held by Irish citizens.

The median individual salary in Ireland in 2023 was €43,221. That’s equivalent to $49,135.79 and the median individual salary in the United States in 2023 was $42,220.

Anonymous G double-posted this 4 days ago, 6 minutes later, 5 hours after the original post[^] [v] #1,367,728

I also know that Ireland isn’t the UK. My point is that using the UK as an example when compared to the US as if the only difference between the US and the UK is the NHS and that explains the difference in our economies is bogus because you can just as easily choose another random country and paint the opposite picture. Another example is the United States has better social services than China does, but the United States is much wealthier per capita than China is. It’s also not necessarily as simple as "America has low taxes, the UK has high taxes." While Ireland has low corporate taxes, Ireland taxes individual income at a higher rate than the United States does.

You disagreed that free health care was the reason the UK is less wealthy, and to prove your point you found a country without free health care that was wealthy?

You're making my point for me.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_GDP_(PPP)_per_capita

The US ranks 9th in the world by GDP ppp per capita, Poland ranks 37th. (Also Ireland is ranked #3 in the world in GDP ppp per capita.)

Anonymous I double-posted this 4 days ago, 10 minutes later, 17 hours after the original post[^] [v] #1,367,762

The thing about Ireland is it’s true their GDP per capita is inflated, but it’s also true even if you ignore the impact of low corporate taxes, Ireland’s citizens are still pretty wealthy compared to most nations and Ireland per capita is still one of the wealthiest countries in the world.

Which do you think would be more pleasant to visit, Scotland or Poland?

Scotland is a part of the UK. I’ve already been to Poland so it would probably be more interesting to go somewhere new.

Anonymous I double-posted this 4 days ago, 2 minutes later, 17 hours after the original post[^] [v] #1,367,772

Poland is nice in terms of culture though, but it’s kinda gritty tbh. It’s a post Soviet country so it’s not the same as Western Europe. It’s the sorta place where I don’t mind visiting and there’s stuff to do there, but I wouldn’t immigrate to Poland.

Not familiar with Scottish food, but I’d imagine Poland. Although that’s mostly based on stereotypes about British food.

In terms of religion though, I’d think Ireland and Poland would be more similar than Ireland and Scotland since they’re both Catholic.

A lot more people than you’d think. There are still 1.4 billion people who identify as Catholic.

Anonymous I double-posted this 4 days ago, 2 minutes later, 18 hours after the original post[^] [v] #1,367,820

Ireland and Poland are more religious than the UK. (Wikipedia has pie charts that help visualize it.)

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Religion_in_the_Republic_of_Ireland

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Religion_in_the_United_Kingdom

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Religion_in_Poland

Less than half of British people are Christian, but in Ireland and Poland the majority of the population identify as Catholics.

It’s more expensive, but they also make more money. It’s true that things are less expensive in poor countries, but it turns out that poor countries are actually poor and rich countries are actually rich. It’s not that complicated.
