Topic: Hello, my name is Captain Fabien Gottlieb von Bellingshausen

Captain Fabien started this discussion 1 week ago #125,943

I am currently on an excursion at McMurdo Station, in Antarctica. The current temperature is -40 F/-44 C. My trip is for scientific purposes, and to trade information with other scientists who are currently there. I will remain in Antarctica for approximately 6 months.

My purpose for this trip is to see if Antarctica can become habitable for permanent living. Currently, the only living thing that stays here permanently, are seals and penguins(scientists only stay for several months at a time). I've been living among them to get research on how they survive the cold, so maybe other people can survive here permanently as well.

I will keep you updated on my research.

Damn, it's is now 2:22 am, and currently -58 F. It is certainly amazing how these penguins stay warm in such cold environments. I'm currently bundled up in my 3 sleeping bags, and fully clothed inside my tent. I am working on building an igloo when the sun is due to come out again.

Brrrrrrr.

My name is Postmaster Joe Smithson. Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays this courier from the swift completion of his appointed rounds.

I am currently engaged in a most hazardous expedition to the edge of the known world, to deliver a letter to Captain Fabien Gottlieb von Bellingshausen on behalf of Throckmorton, Esq.

Alas, my ship of the line has become hopelessly becalmed in the Atlantic ocean, and I am swiftly running out of options. Is there anybody who can help me?

@OP

What an amateur mistake.

Not dumb enough.

For how gullible Matt is, he's still got more book smarts than "Father Dave".

Hello all. It is currently -71F, wind is about 10 mph, making it seem like -100F.

At this time, I am working on an igloo, but don't have much time left as the sun is setting. Breaking ice is a challenge and is very time consuming, so it will take a while to build a good enough shelter.

About 30 penguins are showing curiosity about my presence, and stand about 50 yards away watching my every move. My guess is they are protecting the band of penguins in the area. Maybe soon, they will realize I am not a threat.

Hello Postmaster. Hope this finds you safe on your journey, and have been able to get your ship moving. Please inform me when you are getting close to land, and I will get a fire going so you can find my exact location.

I am eager to see the letter from Throckmorton, Esq., as he and I are partners in this journey, and have planned for 2 years for this.

Be safe and safe voyage!
