Okay, let's say that you take a cheap remote controlled blimp and you hook it up via Internet to a control system and radio relay with a cheap laptop. You set plane and hidden relay up in a field somewhere in South Korea with a satellite link paid with a disposable credit card and set it to fly due West or East (depending on where in South Korea you are) towards the ocean. You then turn the budget UAV Northwest/east and fly it around to view North Korean villages. Obviously this would be pricy and complicated, but I have heard of a missionary organization launching balloons into North Korea. Hence, with a little development and planning it would be possible, I think. I don't condone or oppose this necessarily, but it seems like something which would be possible and yield some valuable footage. While I'm thinking, a valve and a little remote controlled car could be set up in it so that it could land and a few seconds or minutes of land-level footage could be captured as well.
I'm surprised a news bureau or tabloid has not tried this yet. It does not require a degree to figure out, just a little technical know-how.

It's disposable. The assumption here is that you wouldn't want to send it back because, while possibly legal, would most likely have the South Koreans looking to charge you on a technicality or something.

You could do that. If it was detected they'd destroy it and churn some propaganda about how they downed an Imperialist airship with their superior weaponry designed by the Dear Leader himself. As far as images you wouldn't get what a satelite would but it'd be an interesting thing to try.

It's too small to be a violation of airspace. They wouldn't be able to find it on radar, and even if they found it, it would be a pain in the ass to shoot down.

You're probably right, but they are always threatening to start a war, and they did sink the Cheonan and shell that island - I don't think it would take much provocation for them to attack the South.

Do you really think their retarded, diabetic leadership would last five seconds against South Korea, the United States, and the rest of the world sans China?
They have a large "army," but I wouldn't be surprised if they boil down to peasants who receive stipends for wearing funny hats. It would probably be for the best of the world, North Korean proletariat included, if Kim-Jong Il started a war. At least then we wouldn't have this toxic runoff from the Cold War stinking up Asian politics and trade.

North Korea's soldiers are hungry. That's very true. Hungry people do desperate things. Firearms are a great equalizer and NK has 2 million of their best fed soldiers on the front lines.
NK is a truly isolated country. Not everyone knows how bad they are suffering in comparison.
Only the US is assured to help SK. It's known that north Korea has tunnels that will carry them into south Korea unnoticed.
Also, keep in mind that north Korea is designed to repel invaders. Everything was built with defense in mind. They have a nuke. They might be crazy enough to use it. Also, they might get aid from more countries than china. It is in many countries interest to harm the US.
Also, once the irag and afghanistan wars die down some, there will be pressure for more war to feed the US military industry. It's possible that NK will get some aid from the US in hopes they will start a war.

The world is different now. The US wanted to invade or nuke China in the 50s because they were commie bastards. China may very well be completely neutral or even support a coup in NK in the event of a war, if USA guaranteed it would not send in troops to occupy NK.
