Can a hypnotist hypnotise themselves? As observed with the Dunning Kruger effect, idiots overestimate their intelligence. Conversely, intelligent people can underestimate their abilities and play the role of a fool because they have been harmed by their own intellect. Playing the ultimate fool is the role of a lifetime.
But none so more deceptive is there than one who deceives themselves to the point they don't know who they are anymore or how they got there. The fool's entire life had been a lie.
