I was an anti-war hippie in the making when Bush I and Bush II were doing their thing. I'd stand for it out of respect for my fellow student friends, and freedom was still a thing so I was grateful for that I guess - but I didn't do the pledge back then. Honestly the patriotic stuff was weird anyway, the closer you tie your military stuff to your image, the closer to a regime it becomes (like don't have your president come out in military fatigues).
