Because you'd have to find animals again and lead them to the pen to be slaughter.
Wouldn't it just be easier to keep two alive?

What difference does the difficulty settings make?
I never recognized any difference between hard, normal, or peaceful.

> What difference does the difficulty settings make? > I never recognized any difference between hard, normal, or peaceful.
Basically:
Peaceful: No enemy mobs and you regain health automatically.
Normal: Enemy mobs are present and you slowly regain health automatically.
Hard: Enemy mobs are present, and you cannot regain health automatically.
Peaceful = no aggressive mobs, health regens (quickly) even if you are hungry.. and the hunger bar doesn't deplete.
Easy = aggressive mobs with lower than normal amount of hitpoints and damage dealt, health regens half a heart every few seconds when you aren't hungry.
Normal = aggressive mobs with normal amount of hitpoints and damage, health regens half a heart every few seconds when you aren't hungry.
Hard = aggressive mobs with higher than normal amount of hitpoints and damage, health regens half a heart every few seconds when you aren't hungry.
and in 1.9 Hardcore mode is Hard + your world is deleted when you die.

definitely! back in the good 'ol days of minecraft, Notch encouraged people to play that way because it is the real way to play.
if you don't play on hardcore mode, you are cheating ;D

How is it cheating when Survival mode is the main mode?
Isn't hardcore and creative just extra modes?

Notch has said that eventually he is going to rename the difficulty setting to 'realism', with the names of the settings changing as well. Probably he needs to have some more systems in place before the change can happen or he would have done it already.

Realism seems like a weird name.
When I think of realism, I think of thirst, hunger, disease, fatigue, medicine, lives, and to some extent hygiene.
Basically everything apart of that Survivalism mod. I noticed how the game now has two features of that mod now (Hardcore and Hunger).

realism isn't a mode, it's the name of a setting which will allow you to switch between levels of realism.
i don't follow minecraft 'conversion mods' very well, because i only play the real deal, but hardcore mode is something that Notch has always talked about.

Levels of realism? How is that going to work necessary?
Unless you're referring to the whole replacing peaceful with creative and adding hardcore to a difficulty slider.
I remember hearing about that.

I don't know, but from what i remember, what is currently known as creative will be the lowest setting of realism with it going all the way to what is currently known as hardcore.

But isn't it better now to where in hardcore mode you CAN"T adjust the difficulty settings?
brie !OudrPWaUDQ replied with this 15 years ago, 1 minute later, 1 day after the original post[^][v]#224,434
@previous (I)
yeah... my guess is they will put the slider in the world creation menu, so after you create a world you can't change the realism setting.
Anonymous I replied with this 15 years ago, 3 minutes later, 1 day after the original post[^][v]#224,435
@previous (brie !OudrPWaUDQ)
I think it would be better if you can adjust the difficulty slider in Survival and Creative only. Which is what they'll probably do.
Plus you pretty much need to go into Survival to remove items from your inventory in Creative anyway.

I'm thinking they will be moving away from having separate modes for basically the same mode, and will use the realism slider instead.
What we have right now is just survival mode, but with sub modes because they haven't made the change to a realism setting yet. In the future, there will actually be other modes (adventure mode, zombie siege mode, etc), making it confusing with so many modes and sub modes, so why not just make it a slider?
And who knows if creative will remain a separate mode or just a setting for survival.. We'll just have to wait and see...
(Edited 3 minutes later.)

@previous (brie !OudrPWaUDQ)
Adventure, Zombie Siege, and Capture the Flag make sense as game modes.
But you're right that Creative is practically just Survival with too many items.
The slider should allow you to enter creative and survival willingly and then maybe give you a warning message about entering hardcore mode and how you will be unable to switch back.
brie !OudrPWaUDQ replied with this 15 years ago, 10 minutes later, 1 day after the original post[^][v]#224,440
@previous (I)
That could work... it could be a check box underneath the warning that says 'i am ok with this' or something and if it isn't checked you remain at the second-highest realism setting.
Though i do like the idea of each world being a level of realism that you specified at creation, i guess it's really about whatever is the most fun... i'm sure Notch will make the right decision concerning the realism settings.

Well he hasn't indicated otherwise, so as far as anybody outside of Mojang knows, he's still planning on making the change from 'difficulty' to 'realism'.
Everything else is speculation, of course ;)

18 days til no new features for an entire month.
Since they're only adding two major things, 18 days seems like long enough to add in a few minor things as well.. perhaps the realism slider is coming soon, lol.

Do alpha users still get the main game for free and all future expansions?
I highly doubt there will still be updates to the game a year from now when the game has been released.
Notch seems to want to move onto newer games.
brie !OudrPWaUDQ replied with this 15 years ago, 4 minutes later, 1 day after the original post[^][v]#224,449

You're dead wrong about there not being many update after release. Minecraft will have content added for the foreseeable future, and if they ever decide to be done with Minecraft and it stops selling as much, it will be going open source.
Yeah, anyone who bought the game during alpha will receive all updates to the game. If you bought during beta, you will receive all update up to and including the 'final' release in November, then after that Mojang isn't obligated to give you anything else, but that isn't to say they won't continue releasing free updates.

if you activated your gift code during the 4 day period that both gift codes and minecraft alpha were available, then your account should be flagged in the system as an alpha account.

@previous (brie !OudrPWaUDQ)
I don't think they used gift codes back then. I didn't have to activate anything. And didn't they change the policy for beta users to where they have to re-buy the full game?
brie !OudrPWaUDQ replied with this 15 years ago, 21 minutes later, 1 day after the original post[^][v]#224,504
@previous (I)
No. You own minecraft if you currently own minecraft. Why is this so hard for people to understand?
Also, like i said in my last post, there was only a 4 day period of both gift codes being available and minecraft being in alpha.
If you --activated-- (i just remembered it's not when the code was activated, but when it was purchased that matters) a gift code on one of those days, your're account is ultra super premium and you get all minecraft updates forever.
Check the splash text ;)
