Yeah. I know this sounds a bit harsh, but if you're British and you willingly go into Iran, and they then decide that you would make a fine hostage, then it is partially on you.
Shame, though. I bet they've got some really good museums over there. I would love to get a firsthand look at some Parthian or Sasanian stuff

My mate worked for the MOD in Iran when they raided the embassy. It said it was a lovely country and nice people but the Iran government will happily kidnap British citizens on fake charges to force the UK government to agreeing to shit. Its so obvious.

Yes they are now just human bargaining chips that Iran will use to try and strongarm the British government. It's pretty bullshit but they'll do it every time one of us goes out there.
Still, it is nice that our government will, generally, at least try to get our citizens freed instead of saying "nah, fuck it, you're on your own".
