I had a sheriff serve me papers for not paying a credit card off. I agreed I owed the amount, signed them and sent them in. I got papers in the mail saying there was a judgement against me.
You can't be arrested for not paying off the debt signed by the judge, and still after 7 years, you no longer are liable for paying it. It'll look bad on your credit report, but oh well.

Since I agreed I owed the amount, a trip to court wasn't necessary. Had I denied I owed it, then yea, I would of had to appear to dispute the credit card.
